I can't stop singing the praises of a weekly reading group! It was yet again, really nice to hear from everyone.
We are nearing the end of the book! There is about 40 pages left of the section My Intercourse, which we will attempt to finish for next week. I realize that's long for some folks but don't be discouraged from coming, just finish what you can :)
After that we will work through the remaining 2 sections in 1 or 2 sessions, and then it's time for something new! I won't set a date quite yet, but in a few weeks we will have a meta discussion extravaganza, to which folks I'd like to invite people who haven't come in a while, or ever, to join the conversation.
For next week we will be reading a portion of the section My Intercourse. I've somewhat arbitrarily chosen page 263 of the ardent press print as where will stop, specifically the paragraph ending with the line
“Inviolable or sacred property has grown on this very ground: it is a legal concept.”
I came away with a little pin prick of a question, or more of a hypothetical, that I've yet to comfortably answer for myself. What is the story of the egoist prisoner?
Anyways, for next week we will be reading a portion of the section My Intercourse. I've somewhat arbitrarily chosen page 231 of the ardent press print as where will stop, specifically the paragraph ending with the line
“Fool, you who are a unique humanity, that you put on airs about wanting to live for another than you yourself are.”
Some of us will also be attending the @Viscera@ni.hil.ist reading group on the Sunday! Check out their page for more info.
Well, I had a great time at reading group last night :)
After learning a bit about Stirner's tricks, and how to point the finger at things, we are now beginning to think about the finger. Or to put it more eloquently, are pointing the finger back at ourselves (and a few anarchist celebrities as well ;)).
For it is one thing when I give up my present course because it doesn’t lead to the goal and so diverts me down a wrong path; and another when I give myself up. I get around a rock that stands in my way, until I have enough powder to blow it up;
For next Saturday, we will be reading the sections The Owner, and My Power.
The week after that we will be diving into My Intercourse (the section obvs, though we can talk about mine if there's interest). We will likely only read a portion, but just a heads up that the following day Viscera Distro (@Viscera@ni.hil.ist) will be hosting a reading group on the same section, so if you're interested in attending it might be wise to start reading that section early!
This section was quite interesting, and contained a fair number of constantly relevant critiques of social focused politics. Though I'd say to read some more Stirner before diving in, I would recommend it to anyone who's curious (and patient with his style!)
Next week well be finishing up Part 1: Humanity and getting into Part 2: I reading the first section “Ownness”!
Though it builds off of the ideas in the first one, the second part would be a good place to jump in if you're curious about Stirner's perspective.
